Extension cable for energy transition

Scientists led by FLAME member Prof. Hinrichsen investigate direct current gas-insulated transmission lines under real conditions

Is it possible to transport electricity generated from renewable sources over long distances with low losses, efficiently and compactly using underground, gas-insulated transmission lines? The TU Darmstadt and its research partners are investigating this question in a long-term large-scale test for which a new test field was opened at the August-Euler airfield in Griesheim.
